Group therapy can be an immensely beneficial addition to individual therapy. It allows people to work on interpersonal relationships, explore their thoughts and feelings in a peer setting, and receive feedback and support. I run a weekly eating disorder support group for women over 30. Group therapy can be particularly helpful with eating disorders as it addresses feelings of loneliness and isolation and can allow a person to share difficult feelings in a safe place with people who understand. I also run other groups throughout the year, including life transition, women’s issues, relationships, and parent support groups.
